Piraeus tower competition entry, 2010
Our first goal was to create a landmark, a building that would welcome visitors to the port from Piraeus and Athens. Architecturally, it would address the future and look at the past. It would become a symbol of Piraeus and represent the contemporary Greek people. While examining the matter more substantially, however one recognizes that, apart from changes in architecture trends, there have been dramatic social changes in Greece within the last few decades. Consequently, if the Tower of Piraeus represents the contemporary Greek person, the tower is an asshole (a ‘malakas’). In this proposal the building wants to destroy anything that has changed through the years it was sleeping, anything new or different.
